Item 1

Events Since the Last Meeting

a.              18/10/2018 - James Blackwood attended Bromley Heath NHW’s meeting with Downend & Bromley Heath Parish Council and received an update from Chris Fewell, (Beat Manager for Bromley Heath) and Bob Eveley. (Senior Case Worker for SGC Anti-Social Behaviour Team). The update focussed on how ASB in the last year has significantly improved in Bromley Heath.

b.              23/11/2018 – Members of the committee met with the local police beat team to discuss improving the relationship between LGNHW and the police. Three members of the team attended (James Rochford, Joshua Cryer & Katrina Sheldrake). It was agreed that the police would try to regularly attend LGNHW meetings. Agreements were also made on what information the police would like to hear from LGNHW about incidents within the community. Regarding crime within the area discussions focused on ASB and the illegal use of trails bikes on the common land. The police did make an effort to highlight the fact that Lyde Green is very safe.

c.              Kevin Wilkinson, the Police Architectural Liaison Officer, has conducted an assessment of Lyde Green. His report didn’t highlight any significant concerns. LGNHW will share this report with other community stakeholders at the next Lyde Green Partnership meeting to determine whether any actions warrant implementation.

Item 2

Recent Issues and Incidents In Lyde Green – Discussion with Local Police Beat Team

1.          The following items were discussed with the Beat Team during the committee meeting:

a.              At the end November there was a series of attempted burglaries in Lyde Green. These events were investigated by the police and the incidents died down. However, no arrests were made.

b.              Likely stolen vehicle abandoned on estate in January. Reported to police by LGNHW.

c.              Incidents on Lyde Green Common involving trails bikes is continuing but has died down significantly during the winter months.

d.              A male minor within Lyde Green has been referred by the police to the SG ASB unit. The police stated that while the youth lived in Lyde Green the ASB undertaken has typically taken place outside of the development.

e.              The police stated that it has been very quiet during the recent months and that Lyde Green is very safe.

Item 3

Objectives for the next year

The Committee discussed progress made with LGNHW objectives

1.              Place signs within Lyde Green.  Progress has been slow on this objective.

a.              Signs are ready to erect. However, the majority of lampposts are yet to be painted. There is a fear that the signs will become damaged if erected before the lampposts are painted.

2.              Community events.

a.              Over the previous year, 2 ‘Jolly at the Folly’ events were held; one was very poorly attended. It was decided not to schedule more of these events at this time.

b.              Lyde Green Christmas event - 8 December 2018. Due to committee commitments it is not deemed to be practical to man a stall at the Lyde Green Christmas event this year. It is however possible to set up a table with NHW / ASB awareness literature for visitors to take away. This may be extended to NHW window stickers, zone maps and the like. At the AGM, Cllr Steve Reade advised those present of a scheme to obtain funding for the NHW. These funds can be used for promotional material and equipment.

ONGOING ACTION – COMPOSE AND SUBMIT FUNDING PROPOSAL. ACTION NEEDS TO BE REASSIGNED

3.              Advertising.

a.              All committee members are asked to keep promoting the NHW within their areas. This is to extend to social media and other such platforms.

4.              Fundraising

a.              This shall remain an objective over the coming year. No target has been set.

5.              Focus.

a.              It was discussed and agreed between those present that the focus of the NHW shall be the raising awareness of and targeting anti-social behaviour within the area. This is to utilise:

                             I.     Additional community involvement with the Police and ASB teams.

II.    Increased awareness of what constitutes ASB

III.    Promoting reporting methods and mechanisms

b.              It was decided that there needs to be more interaction between the Avon and Somerset Police and the LGNHW. This may extend to holding a local ‘beat surgery’.

c.              a higher level of feedback (suitable for onward promulgation to residents) from the Avon and Somerset Police. This will also require the Police ensuring the maps used to log the location of incidents is updated to include individual streets and not just Howsmoor Lane.

d.              Police are to be invited to ALL LGNHW committee meetings

Progress on this particular objective is going very well. LGNHW have initiated a communication channel with the new local beat manager PC James Rochford. James and his team have been invited to all of LGNHW’s community meetings and AGM.

Item 8

Record of incidents and events.

A record of incidents in Lyde Green is now being populated by members of LGNHW. It has also been shared with the local police. It holds no personal data and the information is only used as an aid so that we can determine whether there are any recurring problems within the development.
