Item 1

Events Since the Last Meeting

1) ‘Jolly at the Folly’ was held at The Folly Pub on the 24th May. The event was by committee members only. Given the success of the inaugural event the lack of attendance was a real surprise and shame and has questioned the value in running further events.

2) ‘South Gloucestershire Food and Drink Festival’ took place on the weekend of the 19th May. This event was very popular and was highly attended. It is hoped by the committee that this event will continue to be held in Lyde Green annually.

3) ‘LGCA Summer Sizzle’ took place on the 7th July. LGNHW had presence at the event by way of a stand with leaflets and information regarding the (newly updated) LGNHW zones. Sadly, the footfall at the stand was poor. This may partly be due to LGNHW having a limited ability to advertise itself due to a lack of signage, but also because the event was poorly attended (which may have been hampered by the event clashing with the England Quarter Final World Cup Match).

Item 2

Recent Issues and Incidents In Lyde Green

The following items were proposed for discussion at this meeting by our community:

  • Non-residents speeding through the estate to cut to Yate/Science Park.
    • LGNHW – Sadly there is little we can do about this. The estate is a public highway with free access to anyone, not just residents. As far as speeding is concerned we have already discussed the option to setup a Speedwatch group. Sadly, LGNHW doesn’t have the resources to administer this so has advertised this option out to the community via its social media pages so that any keen residents can undertake the setting up of this. Counsellor Rachael Hunt is pursuing the issue of speeding with South Glos Council, who are working with the developer to resolve the problems with the speed tables. A couple of residents and Rachael are also looking at setting up a community speedwatch. If anyone can spare a few hours and join them, please e-mail Rachael on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
  • Local youngsters causing a nuisance by anti-social behaviour and littering
    • This is an well known issue that has been raised on a number of occasions. A number of initiatives are ongoing to reduce these. Residents are encouraged to report all instances of ASB to the police via 101 or via LGNHW.
  • Rubbish on cut through to retail park via bridge over A Road.
    • Instances of litter should be reported to the council. This issue was raised at the Lyde Green Partnership Meeting and other residents groups are campaigning on this issue. South Gloustershire Council and Emersons Green Town council have litter picking equipment that is available to borrow to residents who wish to support the community by maintaining a clean environment.

Item 3

Objectives for the next year

The Committee discussed progress made with LGNHW objectives

1.     Place signs within Lyde Green.

A digital map of the proposed location of the NHW signs has been created within LGNHW’s Google account (on Google Maps). Some minor modifications are required to this mapping in order for these sign locations to be shared with the council for permission.

A quote was obtained to label the street signs - £15.

Some signs will also need to be reduced in size, with a few kept at full size for the entrances to the development etc.

Action – JB to email AH to confirm how many signs will need to be cut down.

2.     Hold a community event to publicise NHW.

The committee continued to discuss the best way to hold community events. The following events are being considered for 2018.

- A Summer party was planned for August 4th to be held on Lyde Green Common Land. However, during the preliminary planning discussions, it became apparent that the Lyde Green Summer Sizzler was intending on becoming a bigger event that would fulfil what NHW was trying to achieve. Given the efforts required in setting up an event it was felt it was not worth continuing especially if it meant ‘competing’ with the summer sizzler.

- LGNHW hosted a stand at the Summer Sizzler on the 7th July. Although the direct value of manning this stand is poor it is felt that NHW’s presence is essential. Even if there is minimal interaction/discussion with the community. It is believed that the presence of the stand reinforces the fact that there is NHW group in the area.

The underwhelming attendance at both the Jolly at The Folly and the LGCA Summer Sizzle questions the enthusiasm the community has for community led events. Arranging events for the community is a challenging and time consuming task. There are also many community organisations within Lyde Green with similar objectives. It was suggested that instead of ‘competing’ with these other community groups that it may be worth pooling resources and jointly organising events for the community.

Action – reach out to LGCA and Friends of LG Primary and propose that we jointly host some events.

3.     Spread the word of LGNHW. Communicate what the value of a NHW is.

This work is ongoing. LGNHW is actively posting updates on social media.

4.     Fundraise so that there is surplus of funds within the account. Target of £200.

LGNHW are currently a long way short of this target. Funding is available from Emersons Green Town Council for community projects. LGNHW, with justification, can apply for funding to support the group. It is felt that LGNHW signage/banners would be useful to help advertise the group at events (like the LG Summer Sizzler).

Action – James to apply for funding for LGNHW signage that can be used at events.

5.     Complete ‘admin’. Website / distribution lists / our watch registration / bank account/fill all roles within the NHW and ensure everyone understands responsibilities.

On-going actions are:

Action – AH contact Our Watch to ensure that registration is complete.

Action – LGNHW to continue to post regarding vacancies within committee/coordinators

Item 4

Residential Zone Coordinators

An updated zone map of Lyde Green has been produced and is now digital and is drawn directly onto Google Maps. Some zones have been modified to better distribute some of the existing larger zones and to incorporate new parts of the development.

Ian Marshal has volunteered to be the ZC for Zone 10.

Melanie Whittle has recently moved and will now be the ZC for Zone 11, thus leaving Zone 4 vacant.

Actions still standing from previous meetings:

Action – JB to start posting zone coordinator profiles on website
